Villisonica and Studio South decided to create a youtube page featuring some of the amazing footage and videos they captured from local Asheville NC artists etc. In doing so, they had helped put together a music video for Kellin Watson of footage taken from her episode of Studio South back in 2007 when she was at Echo Mountain Recording making her album, No Static. They did a remarkable job with it, and we just wanted to be sure everyone got a chance to view the video for them selves as well! So check it out here and enjoy!

October 2009

So much to update, so little room. Kellin spent a rather busy summer touring across the states and Canada. So far this fall she's been dropping in to play a few festivals including Bristol Rhythm and Roots in Bristol Tennessee, Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival in Silk Hope NC, and Fall For Greenville in Greenville SC. While at Shakori she was able to meet up with good friends, The Duhks, and perform Chains of Love with the lovely Miss Sarah Dugas once again, including a guest appearance from Vic Stafford on Drums. Meanwhile, Kellin and filmmaker Kevin Patrick Murphy have been making a documentary while Kellin's been on the road this past summer and fall. Kevin started filming Kellin back in March 2009 and picked back up in the summer. Kellin hopes to use this documentary as a promotional plug for her upcoming album she hopes to have out by the spring/summer of 2010... Kevin Patrick Murphy plans to give us small "sneak peak's" and trailors along the way as well. Kevin is very excited to be working on the project and here's what he had to say about Kellin: "I first heard Kellin sing in January 09 and her voice took my breath away. Literally. I had the privilege of shooting a video for her song, "Tightrope" and then was honored with a invitation to Nova Scotia Canada to document her three week tour there. The story of a singer song writer trying to make it in a extremely difficult music business, is not a new story by any means. In Kellin's case, her family tree is ripe with musical heritage that has kept Kellin surrounded by talented musicians her entire life. Kellins influences are old time folk, rock and roll, Jazz, Gospel, r&b and soul, which make for interesting interviews and song material. Kellin is relentless, driven, confident and on a road filled with both rewards and challenges. I'm excited to be directing her documentary and I know everyone will enjoy this exclusive behind the scenes look into the life and music of this uniquely talented singer/songwriter Kellin Watson. -Kevin Patrick Murphy "

In the meantime, you can keep yourself updated with any previews and live footage and Murphy decides to share with the Kellin Watson Fans by going to this link on youtube: THIS LINK

For the time being, you can watch the most recent peice Murphy has posted for your viewing pleasure from a concert that Kellin did with Michael Bellar and The As-Is Ensemble at The Black Mountain Center for the Arts this past September 2009. Kellin sang The Wind Crys Mary with The As-Is Ensemble since its a tune they already perform live, (usually without a singer). There was pure magic in the room that night, and hopefully you can feel some of it for yourself as well by watching the video:Wind Crys Mary, Kellin Watson and Michael Bellar As-Is Ensemble More postings to come soon! Stay tuned!

Happy Spring everyone! Oddly enough it's snowing here in Western NC! But the sun just came out...whacky spring weather. Anyhow, I have lots of cools stuff to share with everyone. To start, I just finished doing a play this past February called Amerwrecka that was a lot of fun and very well received in Charlotte NC where we put the production on. I played the part of one of the four students that were shot and killed in the Kent State Shootings in 1970. It was a great learning experience and a lot of fun to tap into my acting abilities too. The play was so well received that a film production company decided to pick up the script and make it into a movie to take to Sundance Film Festival this coming year! The director and writer, J.D Lewis asked me to play the role again for the movie, and to use my song Ship again as we did in the play. I am very honored to be asked, and I look forward to stretching out and trying something new again. When I have more details of the whole thing, I'll be sure and update everyone. In the meantime, I've been playing out and traveling around a bit. I went to Nashville and New York in March. In Nashville I played at 3rd and Lindsley with two really amazing artists, Will Kimbrough and Sarah Siskind. It was a lot of fun, and I plan on heading back soon. In New York, I played at a ultra cool songwriter/band room called Rockwood Music Hall. It's super tiny, but really awesome sound system. I liked that it was small too because as I filled the room, it made me feel reeally cool, even though there were maybe about 35 people in there or so. Having a packed room will make anyone feel good, no matter how big or small. While I was in NY I made some really great connections and reconnected with a few people as well and it was a great trip all together. Next I head to the beaches of SC, to Charleston and Edisto this weekend to play acousticly. Then Sat. I open for Cyril Neville at The White Horse in Black Mountain, which is going to be a lot of fun. I am going to be playing with my band on Sat. but it's going to be a different mix-up. We're going to play a more low-key acoustic style of gig, so I'm looking forward to that. I'll be doing the Downtown Alive in Greenville at the end of the month, and I hope the weather will hold out for that. In May, I'll be playing at one of my favorites spots, Jack of The Wood with my band. I've decided to call my band "the strangers". So it'll be Kellin Watson and The Strangers. Who knows though, I may change my mind again between now and then...but for now, I'm liking "the strangers". In mid May I'll be heading out West, FINALLY. I'll be in L.A. trying to showcase and network a bit, so that should be a lot of fun. I'm really excited to get out there because I've never played out there to date. The last time I visited the west side in fact was when I was 2! And I def. don't remember that. In July I'll be doing the Stan Rogers Folk Festival in Nova Scotia Canada! So that should be interesting as well. Lots of cool stuff happening, I might have left something out. But either way, I really appreciate everyone's support and good energy. It has truly helped me push forward despite minor setbacks here and there. Till next time...

Hello!
So when you have a min. between now and September 7th, check out my current fundraiser project I'm working on with kickstarter.com in order to finish my upcoming album! The deal is, I have about 58 days left to reach my goal of $3,000. There are tons of prizes and rewards for those of you who decide to pledge. Every little bit counts too, so don't be shy. If I don't reach my goal by September 7th at 7pm, then no one gets charged, and no prizes will be sent. Basically, everything will be null and void! Which would suck! I'm really excited to share my new tunes with my supporters, so I really hope we can meet this goal together!
In short, it's a given that I need all the help I can get in this life ;). But now, more than ever, I ESPECIALLY need your help on this project. Without you, there is no new album. That being said, if you feel so moved, show me some love.

Hello everyone! Kellin's song, When Is Enough Enough has finally aired on the Canadian Teen Drama, Degrassi the next Generation! The episode in which Kellin's song aired is called "Uptown Girl, Pt.2". If you want to watch it, follow the link, then on the right hand side of the screen, click the third box down which says "FULL EPISODES", then scroll down to "Uptown Girl pt.2". It's towards the end of the show, playing through a full chorus. Go check it out if you like! We'll try to splice it up so that it's not as complicated to check out, but for the time being we'll let you click your way to it. It's a pretty crazy episode, all about this high school girl trying to be a model, and so she sleeps with one of the models in this agency to try to get the job, little does she know, the model is MARRIED! Dunt dunt DUUUUNN! Those high school canadian kids...they're so scandalous! just kidding.
A few other reminders to mention...
Kellin and her band with special guest Tania Elizabeth of The Duhks will be at Jack of The Wood this month on Dec.26th. Try to come on out if you're in the area. Kellin will be doing a couple side projects with Tania Elizabeth and Zach Blew as well, so keep your eyes peeled for a few other surprise appearances this month. Till next time...

Happy Spring Everyone!
I've just returned from my trip up north to the big apple. I went up to promote my new album, No Static and I had a great time and my music was very well received! Thanks to all the people who came out! I was surprised by the wonderful turn out I had each night to be honest! I didn't realize how many people I actually knew, and who knew me up there. So it was nice socializing and reconnecting with the nyc crowd. To capsulize some of the trip, I've done a travel blog if any one's interested in hearing about it. You can check that out by clicking the box below:

Get your free travel blog.
Visit my travel blogs.

Before I headed to NY I had been trying to get a little airplay up that way. One of the stations I sent my music into which is called,
Independent Radio NY
selected my song, Chains of Love for rotation. This past week, the program director contacted me to let me know that they love my track and have been getting great feedback from their listeners and are looking forward to receiving more material soon! So be sure and check
Episode 5
out which includes my song in the mix. All of the music included in that episode is rather good, so go take a listen.
In other news, I will be opening up for Susan Tedeschi on April 19th at the Artisphere International Arts Festival, which should be a pretty fun time. It's in Greenville SC, and will be at the Amphitheatre outside!
This May is festival month and I will be performing at LEAF, AMJAM and FEMME FEST. In addition, I will be doing a show at The Grey Eagle with JAR-E, and Banana de Terra which are two of my favorite local acts. So that should be a cool show as well.
Currently, I am also in the process of working with Billy Corgan to put together a fundraiser benefit concert for the Bob Moog Foundation. The reason for this venture is to make a contribution towards restoring and cataloging the extensive Bob Moog archives. To give you a better idea of the true nature of this important call to action, be sure to visit the
MOOG Foundation
website, where Billy himself so eloquently lays it all out in plain English. I am working with Billy and Michelle Moog to put together a show for sometime in the Fall of 2008, and I hope you will rally behind us to spread the word and help contribute to a truly historical cause. More on this to come...

“Kellin Watson Band will be a featured act at The Asheville Music Jamboree, May 23-25, in the mountains of North Carolina at Deerfields Amphitheatre. AMJam will also spotlight Gov’t Mule, Burning Spear, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, Jason Isbell, The Lee Boys, Raq, Afromotive, Laura Reed and Deep Pockets, Barrel House Mamas and many others. In addition to two music stages and multiple camping options, the event will include food vendors, crafters, art, kid’s activities and non-profit group info booths. For full information and tickets, visit www.amjam.net.

November 9th, 2008

Apologies for no updates since the spring! It has been a busy 8 months, with plenty to report!

First off, I had some great shows at AMJAM and at LEAF this past Spring, and heard some great musicians as well. I even got to meet Nance Griffith backstage at LEAF, she was very sweet. I've been involved with a few weddings of my close friends or family members this past spring/summer. While beautiful and lovely, I think it's safe to say I've had my wedding fix for at least a good two or three years. In addition, Billy Corgan asked me to help him put together a Moog Foundation Benefit Concert. So I went to work in March when he asked, and did my best to put together a strong line-up of amazing artists and bands. A month before the concert would be taking place, Billy informed me that his management had made the mistake of double booking him and the pumpkins for the same dates. Therefore, we've had to move the event to 2009. This has caused somewhat of a financial setback for the moog foundation, therefore I urge you to go to www.moogfoundation.org and make a donation to show your support. The Foundation was unable to put together a fall fundraiser as a result of the last min. cancellation as well. Thus, they need our help! Bob Moog's legacy is something that I feel is vital to the history of music, and for any of it to be lost due to a lack of funding, would be a grave disappointment. While I don't have many of the details for the 2009 event, I do know that the winter months are being discussed. Either way, once the event finally takes place, it will be well worth the wait I'm sure. A local magazine called, VERVE, did a feature on me for their

September/October edition
You can follow the link to read the article. I also had the chance to open for the wonderful Susan Tedeschi in Greenville SC. I was super stoked to be opening for her, but then to my surprise, I was able to meet her and chat with her for a moment before I left. She was very down to earth and sweet, it was cool meeting her considering that I used to listen to "it hurts so bad" on repeat with a friend of mine in highschool. My friend and I would get so into it, we would act it out while driving to a concert or the mall, or wherever it was we got our kicks at that moment. Amos Lee came into town again in July, and I got to hang with him and the band. I absolutely, hands down, love those guys. They're always so very sweet and easy going and fun to hangout with. The show they put on at the Orange Peel sold out, and they sounded amazing of course. By September, The Duhks were back in town and I got to spend some quality time with Sarah and Christian Dugas, who are two of the newest members of the group. I really enjoyed getting to know them a little better since every other visit, we usually never really had the time to do so. We played some music together and sang a bit. It was such a lovely week! After the visit we all had the bright idea that I should hit the road with them for a few shows in October...and so I did! I opened for the Duhks in Montreat NC, Charlotte NC, Atlanta Ga, and Athens Ga. Then I went down to MagFest in Live Oak Florida with them. I really enjoyed the time with them, and the education of random things I wouldn't have expected as well. I then ventured further south solo and played two shows in the blissful Vero Beach Florida at a wine and cheese shop called Bodega Blue. I had a very warm welcome down there, and a surprisingly exuberant crowd on both nights. Vero is a beautiful beach town, that instantly made work feel like vacation, which I never mind!! The perks of being a muscian! I enjoyed my time on the road with them so much in fact, that I didn't want to come home! I wanted to keep traveling and playing and meeting new people...alas, i had to head home for one of the annual private parties I always play in Davidson NC. Thus, I made my way back up to NC and just played the party last night and had a great time with my band. I haven't been able to play with my band for some time now, so it was a lot of fun. What's on the musical horizon next? A few things... I'm playing in Johnson City TN on Nov.29th, and Jack Of The Wood Dec.26th in Asheville NC. I'm looking forward to both shows. There are also a couple private parties I'm playing in December that should be nice. Tania Elizabeth of The Duhks will be living here in Asheville for the month of December while on break. Her and I will be playing music together, and she will be joining my band for our show on Dec.26th at Jack Of the Wood. In addition to that I'm hard at work to book myself more shows! I'm eager to line enough shows up to stay on the road for a bit, and meet new people and share my music with them. I also have been writing plenty of new songs, so my hope is that I might be able to start working on a new album by the summer of next year...but we'll see how everything goes. It's a fickle business, that's for sure! I hope everyone is at peace with the recent election. I know I am. There are no words to describe how it feels to be a part of such history. Till next time...

Happy Holidays everyone! A few updates for all you Kellin Watson sneezers...
First, Kellin recently played two fabulous shows down in Tallahassee Florida this past month to a packed house thanks to the winsome Sarah Mac Band, the ruminative Redboy, and the human rockcandy, The Ums! Kellin was well received in the sunny state and plans on going back again soon. There were also some very notable media savy peeps in attendence at both shows. On Friday night at E3, a very thoughtful young man by the name of Mike took some shots of the show for me and sent me the link to his album. Follow the link to see the Image hosted by Webshots.com
by fsudabest
On Sat. night the au fait video production media man himself, Marc Bowerman attended the musical binge and shot videos for all four bands. He put together a great little one song video of Red Flag that night, and posted it on youtube. Anyone interested in seeing this rare footage of a Kellin Watson "unplugged" ditty, just press "play" below!
The end of 2006 is fast approaching and 2007 is well on it's way with a voluptuous new album from Kellin Watson! If you haven't snagged your copy of Paper Bird at one of Kellin's shows in the past two years, it might be a good idea to purchase one of those now seeing that Kellin is just about sold out completely of her second batch of Paper Bird Cds! (crazy!) Remember that if you don't live in the western NC region, you can purchase them online through either cdbaby or itunes.
Hope everyone has a safe and happy new years! Til' next year...enjoy watching Kellin's last performance of 2006!

March 10th, 2007
Just finished up with recording this past week at Echo Mountain, which means we're one step closer to the final product being finished! To give everyone a recap, here's a little newsletter to catch you up to speed:
STUDIO SOUTH:
“Recorded in Asheville at Echo Mountain, Studio South puts you on the studio floor as we talk with, and listen to performances from, some of the most interesting musicians from the southeast.”

Studio South is a group of very talented filmmakers and music gurus who teamed up together to begin acknowledging the stellar Asheville music scene that has been booming for the past few years now. The show is designed somewhat like a reality show that follows the artist around the studio, interviews them, and films as they rehearse and record at Echo Mountain Studios. Hosted by WNCW's, Kim Clark, It’s somewhat like the conversation you would want to have with artists you respect and admire. The two pilot episodes were shot this past week with Stephaniesid and Kellin Watson. Jessica, from Echo Mountain is taking the pilot episodes to South by Southwest in Austin Texas this week to shop around. This means many different things in general, but most importantly for Kellin, this means more exposure! Which is a great thing. We will keep everyone posted on the details of this project as they continue to develop!
RECORDING AT ECHO MOUNTAIN

Kellin just wrapped up her week of recording at Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville NC this past week. Kellin teamed up with Aaron Price and Bill Reynolds as the producers, while Danny Kadar engineered. Kellin couldn’t have asked for better guys to work with. Danny is possibly one of the best engineers in NC and made Kellin feel safe knowing her songs were in good hands. Bill Reynolds has made so many records, not to mention has traveled all over the place with Donna the Buffalo, so it’s safe to say, experience is something Bill Reynolds exudes. Bill helped keep a freshness and simplicity to the record that might have otherwise not been there. Aaron Price has made many records as well, half of them with Bill Reynolds as a matter of fact. Aaron brought a new dimension to Kellin’s music with his stylistic piano parts. With all four of these brilliant brains combined, rest assured that this next album is going to be the best yet, and not to be overlooked! In fact, we have such faith in this album that we’ve decided to offer a special deal for pre-orders. If you pre-order you copy of Kellin Watson’s new album, here are a few of the perks:
To the FIRST
15 People: Sticker, Signed KW Poster, KWband LIVE CD, an extra special surprise bonus that cannot be revealed until release time. (But trust us, its well worth the wait)
20 People: Sticker, Signed KW Poster, and a copy of the limited edition KWband Live CD.
30 People: Sticker, and a Signed KW Poster
50 People: A Kellin Watson Sticker

FINALLY! I can hardly believe I am sitting here updating my own site for all you patient people! After many setbacks and frustrations, I FINALLY found someone who helped me change my site so that I could make all the updates myself! Meaning...my site won't be so out-of-date anymore. Thank goodness. SO! Time to update... So many things have happend in the past year. I'll try to summerize. First off, the last time we had updated this site, I had just finished making the LIVE album and was selling a limited number of copies at live shows. The response to the LIVE cds was huge though, and I was forced to make a second limited edition release. I've finally drawn the line for now though. Aaron Price produced that project for me, and i'm currently in the process of continuing to work on the new project of my second full length album. It's been a bit of a slow process due to many things, but fret not, it's finally getting closer to release. We recorded at the new studio in Asheville, Echo Mountain Studios. It's located in an old church in downtown Asheville NC, and it was amazing. Everything about the studio from top to bottom was top of the line. I was so thrilled to record three of the new songs. (Which turned out GREAT!) Aaron Price was the producer, in addition to playing the wurlutzer, organs, and piano. Aaron is the greatest, I sing his praises, enough said. Bill Reynolds(of Donna The Buffalo) came in and recorded bass parts, and helped with some of the production as well. Bill is so talented, and I'm so excited he's helping me out for the new stuff. And music aside, I think there should be a cartoon/comicbook character made after him.*luffhim* Craig Aspen(of The Believers) came in and recorded electric guitar parts. Aside from his band being incredible, he himself proved to be a big addition to the project as well. He played very sensetivly to what would accentuate my songs, and he was very sweet to boot. At one point while he was recording some effect sounds on guitar, a christian radio station came in on one of the frequencies, and we got to listen to a very passionate man preach about heven and hell for a brief few moments. Danny Kadar engineered the songs, he quickly fixed the problem however and jumped back into his job with precission. River Guerguerian played percussion and drums on my first album, and was kind enough to come back and do it all again for my second album! He, like always, was phenominal. So all-in-all we got a lot done and are continuing to do so. I'm trying to save as much money up as possible right now though so that I can afford making the rest of the second album. Anyone who is interested in giving donations, or sponsoring, etc., be sure and let me know! ha. You can email me for more info at either: contactkellin@gmail.com or kellin@kellinwatson.com We hope to get it put out by the spring. Everyone has been so patient with me, and I truly appreciate that. I promise I'm trying to get er done soon! Other news... I got to hangout with Amos Lee for a couple nights while he was in Asheville for his Orange Peel show in October. If you aren't familiar with who Amos Lee is, you should check him out asap. He has a timeless look and sound about him and proved to be far more down to earth than I could have even imagined. My friends and I had such a blast hanging with him, and he even gave us a psychic reading! Spooky. I offered to be his back up singer for his next few shows, but it turned out that LEAF festival was coming up, so I just couldn't do both. haha.

LEAF was great this year! I've been going since I was a kid, but played at the fall festival for the past three years. It's been fun the previous years, but this year was the most successfull. I'm not sure if it was the attendance, or just the fact that the musical groups were so vastly different, but whatever the reason, it was big success! They put me on the mainstage this past year, which was a huge deal for me, I was so excited. Richie Havens approached me after my last set to tell me he enjoyed my set and I didn't recognize him and said, what's your name? When he said his name, I could have just about died on the spot, but he laughed and made me feel okay about it. SO- we're set to continue working on the new album in January and February. Not sure if it will be in Echo Mountain though or NYC studio, as that info comes in, i'll be sure to let everyone know. In conclusion, the past year has been a series of cool things, I opened a couple times for The Duhks, recorded with Scott Senior from The Duhks, I did the quarter century thing, went to NYC and met with and played for murders inc producer, Seven Aurelius, in addition to playing a couple shows up there, and took a small acoustic tour of the Southeast with Will Straughn of "The Will Band". So I had a good year, and I look forward to the coming year and all the exciting things that are in store. working on some tshirt designs currently, hope to have those on sale at shows. If anyone has any design ideas they'd like to share feel free to email them to me. I look forward to seeing everyone at a show soon. Til' next time!

Welcome to the new and improved Kellin Watson homepage! A big thanks to David Gorrie and Pat Price for all their help in getting my site going again.

Updates for everyone: We will be selling the last of the LIVE limited edition Cd's at the next couple shows, so be sure and try and make those. We're going to begin going into the studio to conquer a new album this January 2006. We are already in pre-production for the next album and had the pleasure to pull Scott Senior from The Duhks into the studio last month to lay down the percussive tracks for one of Kellin's new songs. For those of you who aren't familiar with Scott Seniors style, Scott is heavily influenced by Cuban and Latin rhythms. He plays with undeniable soul and feeling, which is why Kellin was honored to have him play on her new album.

We will also be in the process of trying to plan out a southeastern tour for the Spring and Summer months, so if you live in the Southeastern region and want to bring my band to your town, be sure and contact me and let me know where and when!

The re-order of Paper Bird finally came in and those are now back in stock online at cdbaby.com/kellin So if you've been waiting on those, that's where you can find it online.

In other news, there should be a new music video clip up that was filmed in Asheville during a mini-concert Kellin was giving to the directors and production team of a film being shot in the freakishly lovable town of Asheville called, Asheville The Movie. To find out more about the film check out the website at www.ashevillethemovie.com

That's all for, check back for more updates to come

August 15th, 2005 New shows have been posted! More news soon!

July 22nd, 2005 The new Kellin Watson Band Live CD now out. It's only available at shows, 8 tunes for $6. This CD consists of mostly new Kellin Watson material and a few old songs are in there as well. But this CD is only available at a live show, and will only be available for a limited time, so everyone should check-out my show dates for the next few months. The re-print of Paper Bird is finally underway. The order has been placed and we're hoping to have the CDs for sale again by the end of July, August at the latest. The re-print will be slightly different from the first run of Paper Bird due to Media Planet being bought out by a larger company that lost all of my old files (jerks!). We had to redesign the entire CD layout and make a couple changes on the music files as well. However, it's more or less the same CD, just a few changes. SO, if you would like to pre-order a copy, contact us for more info, or better yet, come see a show soon and buy your copy in person! Pre-orders for Paper Bird with S&H will be about $18.

June 29th, 2005 Three new shows posted for July! Hope to see you out at the shows!

Work is still progressing on the full website. More updates soon!

May 11th, 2005 Just wanted to let you know my band and I will be heading into the studio May 31st to record a few songs as the "Kellin Watson Band." Also, there will be a limited edition promo CD recorded live at WNCW, available at the Stella Blue show this Saturday (Buy your tickets!). So, people should try to make it out to get their copy now. It's important to get as many out to this show as we can, since it's happening the same weekend as LEAF Festival, one of the biggest music festivals in our area.
